Tim & Cindy Katona- Trainers - Belleville, MI

Tim & Cindy work together in their training and showing program. Although their jobs vary back and forth, training the young stock and managing the Non Pros and their horses is Cindy’s main job. Tim does most the Finishing work on the reiners and the showing. Tim was one of the founding members of the MRHA and helped develop and implement the NRHA Youth Program. Tim apprenticed with Shorty (OK) Russell in Texas. Tim has won multiple World Championships, competing successfully in NRHA Futurities and Derbies and in 2005 captured 2 major Derby wins. He has served on the NRHA Board of Directors, as well as the MRHA Board of Directors and had been a qualified NRHA Judge for many years. Cindy also has served on the MRHA Board of Directors, ran the successful Delta Classic reinings in Belleville, Michigan with Sandy McCaffery and Larry Hontz and held the position of MRHA Secretary for many years before handing the reins to current MRHA secretary Ruth Wentz. Cindy started with horses working Hunter Jumpers until being introduced to Reiners in her late 20's. She started as a Rookie with MRHA and competed successfully in the Ladies and Limited Open classes, wining varies state titles in reining during her show career, including the Buckeye Arab Reining Championship in Columbus, OH. She credits her accomplishments with having rode with such notable trainers as Matt Lantz, Marlin Holroyd, Francois Gauthier and of course her husband, Tim. “We are proud to have had over the years; numerous MRHA Rookie & Non Pro Champions, as well as having world champion reining horses, come out of our program”. We like to maintain a number of Non Pro riders and their horses and always have openings for new riders and horses at our farm. Our Breeding Program includes DA Jazzy Starlight by Grays Starlight, and Playboys Sugar Daddy by Freckles Playboy, both Morrison and Lawson Trophy winner.
