What are the MRHA Rules?MRHA Printed new rule books in effect as of the 2003 show season. The complete Rule Book is part of this web page. Does the rider in a Green Reiner I rider and II have to own his or her horse? I assume that the Rookie Riders still do not have to own their horses. Answer: According to the MRHA Rules, the Rider does not have to own their own horse to ride in Green I or Green II classes however both the Rider and the Owner must be current MRHA members to show. According to the NRHA 2003 rulebook, the Rookie rider must have completed NRHA Non Pro approval process and possesses an NRHA Non Pro card. Riders may use a horse without the restrictions of ownership for Non Pro classes as defined under Non Pro conditions Riders must not have earned in excess of $200 NRHA lifetime earnings, all categories, at the start of the NRHA year. This does not include money earned in youth classes. Riders must not have earned more than 50 points in NRHA sanctioned Youth competition. Horses are to be shown one handed. Rookie Reining is not to be run concurrent with any other NRHA class. 2. While we are on it, what are the changes for Green I and Green II? Answer: The main change is, in Green I class, the pattern designated will be altered to consist of two spins both direction and simple lead changes in both directions. Simple lead changes where a simple lead change is called for in the pattern, the horse must come to a complete stop and then depart. The Green II class will run NRHA approved patterns, but has the option of showing with 1 or 2 hands. 3. What is the eligibility for a Non Pro card? Answer: NRHA makes to determination of who receives a Non Pro card. In your Reiner magazine, you will find the application. Basically, A Non Pro is a person who at the time of the application has not won in excess of $100,000 in Category 1 and 2 open reining competition. They shall further be defined as a person who has not given lessons for remuneration and /or has not directly or indirectly shown, trained, or assisted in the training of a horse ridden astride for remuneration this does not include prize money. 4. In short, what are the qualifications to be in each of the classes? Open Any rider holding a valid NRHA card. Intermediate Open Any rider holding a valid NRHA card who has earned less than $15,000 in category 1, 2 and 6 earnings over the previous three calendar year. Limited Open Any rider holding a valid NRHA card who has earned less than $5,000 in lifetime earnings in category 1, 2 and 6 earnings at the start of the NRHA year. Rookie Professional - Open to any rider, except those holding an NRHA Non Pro Card, who has earned less than $5000 in NRHA lifetime earnings, all categories, at the start of the NRHA year. Can run concurrent with any Category 1 Open, Intermediate Open and Limited Open Class. Non-Pro Open to any rider holding a valid NRHA Non Pro card as defined in the Non Pro section of the NRHA handbook . Intermediate Non Pro - Open to any rider holding a valid NRHA Non Pro card who has earned less than $6,000 in category 1, 2 and 6 earnings over the previous three calendar years.Limited Non Pro - Open to any rider holding a valid NRHA Non Pro card who has earned less than $1,050 in category 1, 2 and 6 earnings over the previous three calendar years. Novice Horse Open Restricted to horses that have not earned more than $5,000 in lifetime NRHA Category 1 earnings at the start of the NRHA year. Novice Horse Non Pro - As Novice Horse Open but limited to Non Pro riders and restricted to horses who have not earned more than $5,000 in lifetime NRHA Category 1 earnings at the start of the NRHA year.Rookie - Riders must not have earned in excess of $200 NRHA lifetime earnings, all categories, at the start of the NRHA year. Youth 13 & under and Youth 14 18 Any youth 18 years of age or younger as of January 1st. All horses shown in youth must be solely and completely owned by one of the following (a) the youth, (b) a member of his or her immediate family, or (c) a corporation, partnership or other business entity provided the youth and/or family member or members of his or her immediate family are the sole and only owners of that business entity and the ownership of the at business entity does not change to include non-immediate family members or entities.Green I - Non-professional riders who have not earned $10 lifetime or 10 points in NRHA/MRHA competition, at the start of the NRHA year.
