MICHIGAN REINING HORSE ASSOCIATION GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
January 20, 2007, Double JJ Resort - Rothbury, Michigan
Meeting called to order at 3:15 p.m. by President Chuck Ohlfs. Members present: Sharon Crawford, Linda Kruger, Marilyn Cargill, Lori Lantz, Helen Raseman, Connie Ludwig, McKenzie Lantz, and Ruth Wentz. Members excused: Tom Pierson, Keith Crawford, and Wendy Gerber. Several members were in attendance.
Minutes of January 19, 2007, meeting were read. Motion to accept as corrected made by Marilyn Cargill, second by Sharon Crawford. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report presented as provisional since the payments for the 2006 year-end awards are yet to be posted. Motion made to accept as presented. Motion carried.
Additions to agenda requested. None given.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Sponsorship: Sharon reported to the general membership that she is working with a few saddle sponsors to have saddles to award for the 2007 season as well as securing Clayton's Finest Western Tack sponsorship for boots to be awarded at the Derby and Futurity. A motion was made by Sharon Crawford to spend $1500 on boots from Clayton's so MRHA would receive $1500 in free boots. Second by Marilyn Cargill. Motion carried. She described the class sponsor sign-up sheet and its earning potential. There was much discussion about award saddles for the derby & futurity. No motion or vote at this time.
Newsletter & Web site: The committee will continue to work on timely release of printed information. Web site will continue to be administered by Dan Brocklehurst who will be assisted by Cindy Katona.
Banquet & Awards: All is in place for this year's banquet. There are a lot of raffles and fund-raising activities in which the attendees can participate. The committee has started plans for next year's banquet.
Rules &Bylaws: All members were reminded to make sure they check their NRHA eligibility prior to entering their first class this season. Fines are now imposed on riders, owners, and show secretaries if eligibility errors occur.
Youth Report: The youth will meet to plan their season relative to colors and fund-raising.
Affiliate: Connie Ludwig emphasized the changes to this year's NRHA program: United States now divided into 7 regions, the top 10 riders from each affiliate will be invited to ride at affiliate finals, and designation must be made if a rider rides for more than one affiliate or if the affiliate is different from previous year's designation. Site for finals has not been determined.
MRHA Shows: Showbills presented. Relative to the Liberty weekend show, Helen Raseman made a motion to spend up to $250 for an award buckle for the Dick Middlebrook Memorial award which will be presented to the highest money earning Rookie rider for the Liberty show. Second by Sharon Crawford. Motion carried.
MBBO: Stallion auction bids will be open until 6 p.m. on January 20, 2007. The silent auction items are set to go, also. Stallions not sold will remain available at half price until March 1, 2007. The MBBO committee will have the MBBO fund host the post derby/futurity parties.
Disciplinary Action: No report at this time.
OLD BUSINESS - None
NEW BUSINESS
Reining Clinic: June 9th and 10th. Same costs to MRHA as last year. Will stress attendance of auditors at this year's clinic.
Lansing Expo: Ruth will check to see if MRHA can get some $$ off coupons from Michigan Horse Council to publish in the Slide Tracks. Relative to the Expo and shows, Marilyn Cargill made a motion that the liability insurance premium (est $1,500) be paid when it becomes due. Second by Connie Ludwig. Motion carried.
Election Results: Board of Directors elected for two-year terms were Sharon Davis-Crawford and Tom Pierson. Appointed to one-year terms on the board were Linda Kruger, Lori Lantz, and Helen Raseman.
Adjournment: Motion made by Sharon Crawford, second by Helen Raseman. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 4:05 p.m.
