Sara Brocklehurst
Hey! My name is Sara Brocklehurst, and I am from Charlotte, MI. This is my 6th year competing in the reining circuit, and I can’t say enough good things about the past 5 summers. I currently ride a 7 year old mare, CF Penny Rich (Penny). Last year I started working with Penny and trying to crack the code to get her shown to achieve a desirable ride. She is allowing me to be competitive, and to advance my reining experiences. Besides Penny, we also have our “seasoned” reining horse, Boomer. As my starter horse, Boomer taught me determination and patience. He led me to a trip to the Eastern Affiliate in Virginia, and gave me a chance to take reining to a national level. Boomer is now 19, and holding strong, although he is being retired from reining. Our last horse is my dad’s new project. She is now 3, and has lots to learn. We are looking forward to continuing her training in the reining principles.
My love for MRHA and reining horses would not have started without the help of my Dad, and the person who has helped me countless nights, and many early mornings, Tim Bunce. Tim has helped me learn training practices and has helped me become a better rider. Tim also guided me and Boomer in my most memorable show in my reining career, the trip to VA to the Eastern Affiliate Finals. To be in the same show pen as some of the top riders in America was really cool. The first time I walked into the arena with Boomer, my heart raced, and the only word out of my mouth was, “WOW!!”
Reining is an awesome sport, and is positively the most exciting thing in my life. I have always loved horses, and reining is a place where horse knowledge can grow and flourish. I have met many expert Reiners whom I will never forget.
I would like to Thank … Tim Bunce, Tom Pierson, Ruth and Chuck Wentz, Sharon and Keith Crawford, Alice Burrough, and all the others that have helped influence and guide me. There are no words to express how much you mean to me.
My family and friends have also been there to support me in any way they can. My parents have always supported me whether it was going to horse shows or getting me new tack. Anyone that is not in reining, and likes competitive, yet fun and challenging experiences, this is the place for you! It doesn’t matter whether you are young or old; reining is a great place to gain horse knowledge and lasting memories!
